Butter Biscuit: A Story of Resilience

Butter Biscuit came to Saint Gertrude Rescue with at least 4 of his 9 lives already spent (does that make him middle aged?)

He was literally dumped at a local kill shelter as a frail bottle baby weighing only a few ounces.  Rescuers went to work quickly by warming him, bottle feeding him, and keeping him close to their heart day and night - literally (did you know feeling & hearing your heartbeat is one of the ways to comfort an orphaned baby kitten?).  Butter Biscuit had a severe upper respiratory infection that made things very difficult for his rescuers because he couldn't breathe due to congestion and didn't eat well.  His infection traveled to his sinuses and into his left eye, where it damaged and necrosed his eye to the point of blindness.  On top of all of that, he also had an unrelated abscess in his right leg that required multiple surgical procedures. Ultimately the surgeries needed a large amount of muscle to be cut away and left him with a permanent limp.

The miracle of Butter Biscuit is that he has endured all that has been given to him and yet, is one of the kindest, most intelligent, adventurous, playful little kittens you'll ever meet.  He seems to only want to make people happy. Just try watching a video of him without smiling - it's impossible.

Butter Biscuit is a great reminder of the importance of resilience.
